"United" was written by Marlon Walker (with Johnny J Blair) as part of a multi-media event at Penn State University. In 2003 there were problems in the Penn State area with racism and local unrest. The song was written as part of a promotional video that was used by Penn State. The song was covered by gospel singer Henrietta Hadley but was never released. It went to Carol Calloway, who was the first to issue it on CD.
