notes

Double CD release of tracks from Nina's four earliest recordings which were released on the Bethlehem and Colpix labels. Liner notes incorrectly credit Albert "Tootie" Heath (Disc 1, tracks 1-11) on piano instead of drums. None of the musicians on "The Amazing Nina Simone" Disc 1, tracks 12-23) are named on any version of that release, but were likely Jimmy Bond on bass and Al 'Tootie' Heath on drums as they accompanied her on her next release. "At Town Hall" was recorded live in New York City's Town Hall on 15 Sep 1959, although several songs on that release were re-recorded in the studio. "Live at Newport" was recorded at The Newport Jazz Festival on 30 Jun 1960.
