notes

Recorded Long Island City, N.Y., c. November 1928 (tracks 1 to 8), c. December 1928 (tracks 9 to 15), c. January 1929 (tacks 16 to 27)

Producer's comment on musicians:
Tracks 1-4: Alberto Socarras (alto sax) is usually listed as being on this session, but there are clearly only two reeds present.
Tracks 5 to 8: it has been said that Ed Cuffee was replaced by an unknown trombone player on the last title of this session. I feel that this is unlikely because the style of playing is so close to that of Cuffee, making the change a pointless one.
Tracks 9 to 11: The trombone player on this session sounds to be the same player as on "Death Sting Me" from the last session.
Tracks 16 to 19: The clarinettist on this session is usually listed as Ernest Elliott, but I believe him to be Arville Harris, the same musician as on the next session.
