How Will I Talk to Abuela? is the story of 5 year-old David who is excited to meet his grandmother (Abuela). The problem: Abuela speaks mostly Spanish and David speaks only English. In the end, David discovers that strong family bonds can transcend language barriers. The story is based on real and imagined incidences between the author's mother (Abuela), and Abuela's biracial grandchildren. David represents a composite of those grandchildren.
