5Octavia Hunter wears her perseverance well
The four-foot-ten-inch tall, seventy-eight-pound lady (never growing or weighing much more because of a childhood bout of ovarian cancer) survived a full hysterectomy at age six. Octavia's mother died from a drug overdose a month shy of Octavia's fifteen birthday, Octavia was out of the house by seventeen, and she dealt with various drug addictions, all while underage. She turned to stripping a year later and soon afterward was working in the porn business in the early nineties, even managing an infamous turn in the mainstream movie Boogie Nights and a decade-long abusive relationship where she was kept drugged and away from any real social contact.
"Miss Hunter may be known for baring herself sexually, but in No Cinderella Story she bares herself even further. The reader gets a glimpse of her soul and the process that shaped her into a woman who bucked the rules."
-Lyle Ahrens, broadcast journalist, reporter (ret.)
" . . . an engaging account . . . surprisingly lighthearted with a genuine voice ... a page turner."
-Gia Regency, actress
" . . . startlingly honest . . . inspiring, heartbreaking, unnerving, and yes, even naughty. . . . an immersive, grab-you-by-the-short-hairs read that won't let go."-Ralph Greco Jr., writer of No Whip. No Problem
and co-host of the Licking Non-Vanilla podcast (YouTube)
The smart and sassy blonde, who is now in her early forties and looking back at her life, survived all of the above (and more) to tell the tale she relates, warts and all, in this memoir. Coming through, out, and above her hardships, Octavia's view on her life lived, and the life she is still looking forward to, is an inspiration for all of us who have ever feared that they are alone in the world and questioning the possibility of a new day.
The manner in which Octavia Hunter has persevered is proof that a new day is always dawning; we just have to imagine it.
