9Ten Days at Jekyll Island is the story the defines a century The year was 1910. A group of politicians and bankers were invited to secret meeting - a meeting so shrouded in mystery, so secret, that they had to leave at Thanksgiving and go to an unknown destination. They were ruthless, insensitive and guarded. They despised and mistrusted each other, but had to go to see what was in it for them. If word had gotten out that they were traveling together it would have been a scandal and foiled the mission. So, they were asked to arrived in the dark of night, separately, shunning the usual pompous departures and press attention of men of their stature. They boarded a Senator's private rail car and journeyed on a thousand mile train trip to a secret destination - a private estate on Jekyll Island - a place where no prying eyes or reporters were allowed. The Island retreat was reserved and empty. This clandestine meeting was over-protected, so no one would know who they were. Even the island servants were let go and new ones hired for this occasion. The men languished in the luxurious surroundings, were served extravagant meals, drank eighty-year-old scotch, and smoked expensive cigars while they laid out plans that would test their greed. Earlier, in New York, in 1907, the year of the banking crash, thousands lined the streets trying to get their money out of the failing banks. J.P. Morgan saw an opportunity for his plans to expand his Empire. His thoughts brewed and a plan evolved in his brilliant mind. It led to the invitations and the very gathering at his private retreat and the Jekyll Island clubhouse, where plans were laid that would change the face of banking forever! Ten Days At Jekyll Island were Ten Days that shook the world.
