ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

"With Mexico's leadership we have been able to see progress on a wide range of challenges that are vital to prosperity: food security, green economic growth, the fight against climate change, financial education... All of this occurred largely due to the leadership of President Calder n. Barack Obama. G20 meeting in Los Cabos, BCS, 2012.

To govern is to decide. It's not in the least bit simple. In the decisions that are made as President of the Republic, what is at stake is the course of the nation and the living conditions of tens of millions of people. Thus begins this journey in which Felipe Calder n reflects on the complex task of governing and what it means to make decisions in scenarios of uncertainty, decisions that, ultimately, nobody else wants to make.

When facing this challenge, says the author, inevitably one must describe the circumstances, the experiences, the ideas that surround each event. Thus, based on a very precise conception of politics, as a vocation and a duty, Felipe Calder n presents an overview of the most difficult decisions he has made in his career, as a privileged spectator of the democratic transition first, and then as the protagonist in fundamental moments of the recent past, particularly as President of Mexico.

In this critical account in which he intersperses personal anecdotes and unpublished episodes to date, he tackles without difficulty the most delicate issues of his administration, from winning the election, to the extinction of Luz y Fuerza, the economic crisis or the influenza pandemic, up to the security strategy implemented by his government, thus allowing the reader to glimpse the details behind crucial events that shaped the country's present. With full awareness that in presidential decisions one must have the ability to ask oneself what is right, the firmness of character to act, and the disposition to amend the mistakes that inevitably come to be committed, Felipe Calder n ends the journey with a letter addressed to Andr s Manuel L pez Obrador, where he sets forth his vision of current events and the challenges to come.
