n Southern England, James Moore moved to Southern California where he worked as a prominent and successful scientist. But when James invented the Mind Link, he unearthed a dangerous secret leaving him and his wife, Helen, with no choice but to flee.

Moving back to the village of St. Clements in Devon, James reconnects with his aunts and childhood home. He begins to hope that the dangers of the past are over and, with the announcement of Helen's pregnancy, that the future is finally offering them some happiness.
